Exploring the beaches, caves and cliffs, immersed in the landscape and drawn by the world renowned ancient Cornish geology and the rich metalliferous mining history, Charlie became intrigued with the idea of incorporating local rock and minerals into Sunbeam Jackie's work.
Rock hunting, research and experimentation with process ensued. Slicing rock thinly with specialist equipment - the Rock light emerged. Each piece of stone telling it’s own story, the depths of the land revealed and turned inside-out. Charlie and Katy introduced these souvenirs of geologic alchemy into the design and technology used in the Rock Light, synthesising their shared ideas and sculptural processes into the body of work presented here.
Available in a range of colours, including Sun Yellow and Mars Pink, Rock Light is fabricated from patinated copper, glass, perspex, locally sourced stone, and LED lighting. It measures 40cm diameter with a depth of 5cm and is displayed like an interior glowing sun. The lights come with lighting flex and plug to go direct to a socket or for custom options the light can be made to be hardwired.
While every individual Rock Light is a custom-made one-off, there is also the opportunity to have a bespoke option created through either the stones selected or the coloured glass – options that are endlessly adaptable to accommodate any geological desire and colour scheme. Selected rocks and stones from special locations, can be incorporated to commemorate stories and events individual to the owner.

All processes are carried out in specialist facilities in Cornwall and the lights are assembled and finished in the Sunbeam Jackie studio in west Cornwall, UK.
